Race SLO Pro Ambassador: Jordan Hasay

Our Race SLO ambassadors share their stories about motivation, determination, endurance and growth to inspire us and remind us that we are on this journey together.

We are one week away from the SLO Marathon, Half Marathon & Relay presented by Pacific Premier Bank, (plus 5K and family fitness day presented by Idler's Home, and have we mentioned weekend-long Race SLO Festival with cold Lagunitas brew, hot BBQ, live music and vendors?) and we are excited for you to meet our ambassador Jordan Hasay! Jordan will be at the SLO Race Festival ready to answer your questions on Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 29, at 2 p.m. in the lululemon's athlete recovery lounge - don't miss it!

Jordan started running in elementary school, and she quickly gained acclaim around the nation as the fast young girl with the long blond ponytail. As a high school runner in California, she competed at the 2008 Olympic Trials at 1500 meters and was named the 2008 Girls High School Athlete of the Year by Track & Field News. Running for the University of Oregon, Hasay recorded nine top-three finishes at the NCAA track & field championships. After graduating, she joined Alberto Salazar’s Nike Oregon Project and qualified for her first senior world team in the 10,000m. Hasay began to focus on road racing in 2016. In April 2017, her performance in two races catapulted her to the top of U.S. running. First, on April 1, she ran 1:07:55 at the Prague Half Marathon to become the third fastest American woman in history at the distance. That race was a tune-up for the 2017 Boston Marathon, Hasay’s debut at the distance, where she finished third in 2:23:00, the fastest marathon debut by an American woman by almost three minutes. On October 8, 2017, Hasay placed third in the Chicago Marathon, setting a course record and becoming the fastest American woman to finish the race with a time of 2:20:57.

In this video, Jordan talks about what inspires and motivates her. "I want people to be inspired by the performance. Be inspired by using their gift."

Race SLO Pro Ambassadors: Stephanie and Ben Bruce

Our Race SLO ambassadors share their stories about motivation, determination, endurance and growth to inspire us and remind us that we are on this journey together.

In 2015, the Hoka One One Northern Arizona Elite runner Stephanie Bruce won the SLO Half Marathon, racing while 5 months pregnant with her second child. Her husband, also a professional for NAZ Elite, won the men's race that same year (and again in 2017).

This year, Bruces are returning to Endurance Town USA for the SLO's largest running festival, the SLO Marathon, Half Marathon, Relays & 5K, April 28-29, 2018.

After becoming a mother of two boys, Stephanie returned to racing in 2016. She talked to Arizona Daily Sun about the experience.

At first, the "mom" years of her career did not sit well with her; she felt like there was an asterisk placed with her achievements that marked the post-children years. Now she's come to embrace the new era, to feed of the many sacrifices she has to make in order to be a professional runner.

“If I am going to leave my kids and go race, when it gets really painful on in the race, it’s like, ‘Well, you left your kids,’ so there is this part of me that is able to change my thinking, and I am able to go to like a deeper, darker place than maybe before I had kids,” Bruce said. (You can read the rest of the article in Arizona Daily Sun.)

As to how Bruces keep up with parenthood, training and coaching, here is a sneak peek into their day with toddlers. You can find out more on their website Running With the Bruces.
