Ben & Stephanie Bruce to be Part of Festivities at 2015 San Luis Obispo Marathon Weekend

All-American running couple with Cal Poly and Central Coast ties to be part of Saturday, April 25th Family Fitness Day as well as weekend events; register today to be part of the “Small Town, Big Race” experience on April 24–26, 2015

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — (March 17, 2015) — The San Luis Obispo Marathon, Half Marathon + 5K presented by LeftLaneSports.com has announced that top U.S. running couple with Cal Poly and Central Coast ties Ben & Stephanie Bruce will be part of the weekend festivities including Family Fitness Day on Saturday, April 25th. The 4th event edition, a San Luis Obispo running tradition, will be held on April 24–26.

“We warmly welcome Ben and Stephanie to our upcoming 2015 event weekend, and as runners and parents of a newborn, they are the All-American couple to be part of our Family Fitness Day that offers something for everybody,” said Heather Hellman, Event Director. “Both have deep Central Coast ties as Bruce is a member of the Cal Poly Mustang family, while Stephanie is a rival UC Santa Barbara graduate.”

On Saturday, April 25th, the Family Fitness Day event will take place from 9:00am to 2:00pm on the Madonna Inn property and it includes a 5K, 1 Mile, Children’s Quarter Mile Dash, soccer kick, baseball pitch with SLO Blues Baseball, sack race, tumbling with Central Coast Gymnastics, Basketball toss with the Cal Poly women’s basketball team and more! Olympic hopefuls Ben & Stephanie Bruce will be at the start of each kid’s race and then be part of the 5K age group awards ceremony and later they will be at the SLO Life Expo. The couple will also attend the Cal Poly pasta feed at 4:00pm on campus.

Last year, Ben Bruce, 32, won a record five Rock ’n’ Roll Marathon Series events, and the three-time Team USA World Championship member also was a two-time All-American in the steeplechase while competing for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In addition, Ben holds the school’s 5000 meter record (13:40.90).

Stephanie Bruce (nee Rothstein), 31, also has an impressive running resume. The UCSB Gaucho was a two-time 10,000 meter All-American and set school records in the 5000 and 10,000m, and the sub-2:30 marathoner represented Team USA at the 2010 World Half-Marathon Championships. Stephanie is also the co-founder of Picky Bars, a gluten-free, dairy-free energy bar.

In addition, Ben and Stephanie, who are coaches and Northern Arizona Elite team members, are training for the 2016 Olympic Trials, the Team USA qualifier for the Rio Olympics, and the couple also has a son Riley who is approaching his first birthday.
